Support Worker - St Kilda Gatehouse Drop In

St Kilda Gatehouse is a not for profit organisation which began as an outreach service working alongside street based sex workers in St Kilda. Since 1992 the organisation has built its relational model of care around community development and social justice.

St Kilda Gatehouse provides spaces of belonging and safety where individuals experience social inclusion with respect and unconditional acceptance.

The Drop-In centre is the primary point of contact for many who work on the streets. It provides a safe, homely environment. Assisting individuals starts with genuine engagement, building trust, opportunities to form positive and meaningful relationships and providing crisis care and referrals.

St Kilda Drop-In Centre is open five days a week. Women who access the centre face barriers such as family violence, drug addiction, homelessness, poverty, mental health and social isolation. 

The Support Worker role is a 3 day a week position and located in St Kilda. The Support Worker will work closely with the Drop In team to maintain and develop a range of services and activities that occur within and outside of, the St Kilda Gatehouse Drop-In center. You will ensure that individuals feel welcomed and provided with information, support, material aid, advocacy and referrals to other support networks and primary agencies.

Outreach Worker - Young Women's Project

St Kilda Gatehouse provides spaces of belonging and safety where individuals experience social inclusion and access to the support they need with respect and unconditional acceptance.

In 2015 St Kilda Gatehouse launched the Young Women’s Project (YWP). The YWP is a voluntary service that provides wraparound, tailored support including 1:1 outreach, sexual health and education, structured group work, mental health support, advocacy, community linkage, education and employment support and practical assistance. The YWP is a source of dignity and hope for those affected by sexual exploitation

The Outreach Worker will provide outreach and support to vulnerable young women engaged with the Young Women’s Project to address risk factors contributing to sexual exploitation and develop protective factors for young women and help connect them to community, family and services. You will ensure every young person is valued and is provided with information, targeted support, advocacy and referrals while working collaboratively with other agencies to provide a holistic response.

The Outreach Worker will meet reporting requirements through case file notes, intake and appropriate risk assessments to ensure the safety of the young person and workers and liaise with stakeholders.

This position is being offered as a fixed term contract of 3 days per week for 6 months (with the possibility of extension).
